Testimonials

  • “Jim treated me exactly the way I needed to be treated; as a motivated fisherman, with absolutely no local knowledge. Jim, I want to thank you. You put me on my first King!“

Jonathan Horng / British Columbia, CANADA

"I want to thank you for a most memorable photo safari. The photos of the eagles screaming down to get the fish in the water made it all worthwhile. You are a very professional photo adviser & ships captain. Thanks again for the great experience."

"Our fishing charter with you was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska! We appreciated your friendliness, great service, and best of all, you took us to the fish!! Also, it was nice to talk to someone with so much Alaskan knowledge, whether it be wildlife, political, and, of course, our scaly friends.

Captain Jim

I'm a retired newspaper photojournalist who has owned a cabin on the south side of Kachemak Bay (Homer, AK area) for 25 years. The only way to get to the cabin has been by boat.

A 35-year Alaska resident, I've been fishing for many years, and spent my first summer as a captain guiding clients on the saltwater for Baranof & Company in Ketchikan where we lived in 2009.

Larry Csonka's "North To Alaska" fished with me in the summer of 2008 when I operated a sportfish guide business on Anchorage's Ship Creek.

I Am All About The Fish

My last name, Lavrakas, is the name of a fish that swims in the Aegian Sea. My photo (left) "In-Digestion" won a prize in the prestigious 2004 World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, Holland.

And I created online videos for the Anchorage Daily News that helped people learn how to fish. (See the link left.)

Derby Winner

In 2004 I won the Ship Creek King Salmon Derby in Anchorage with a 45 lb. fish.
